Officials at ALDI say current hiring efforts will help employ new locations and prepare for the holiday season.

ALDI announced Wednesday the grocery business would add more than 13,000 store and associate positions nationwide while also raising its national average hourly pay.

ALDI currently employs more than 49,000 people, but has spent the past few years aggressively buying and building new locations. The Mahoning area’s newest addition is in Poland.

The company bases its salaries on the location and position. An Austintown assistant store manager position may be evidence of ALDI’s salary increases in Ohio. While Ziprecruiter lists the location’s average starting wage for this position at $18 per hour, ALDI has the position posted on their website with a starting wage of $24.50 per hour with a dollar an hour pay raise after one year.

“Our ability to attract and retain talent has always been key to our success, and we look forward to helping our new team members grow in their careers,” said Atty McGrath, president of ALDI.
