How much can a landlord legally increase rent prices?

It seems like rent prices are rising more and more every day.

While the national average rent price is $1,645, Ohio’s average rent price is $1,305. However, in places like Cincinnati, the rent can reach $1,348 and in Delaware, the average rent is around $1,408.

So, what’s the legal cap? Let’s find out if Ohio has one.

How much can landlords legally increase rent?

Well, in reality, they can increase it as much as they want.

There are currently no state laws that limit how much landlords can charge for rent. In fact, Ohio has a complete ban on rental control and this restricts any caps on rent increases.

Although they can charge you as much as they want to, landlords cannot raise the price of rent without giving tenants notice first. In Ohio, landlords must give renters at least 60 days written notice before raising the rent on a year-long lease.

Landlords also cannot raise the rent in the middle of a lease agreement.
