The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is moving ahead with several construction projects in and around Pittsburgh this week.
Commuters can expect the following ramp closures and lane restrictions starting this week:
Pittsburgh
The Birmingham Bridge will have single-lane restrictions beginning Monday as part of a $4.14-million construction project. Closures will be in effect at various times through May 9:
-Monday - 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.
-Tuesday - 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.
-Wednesday - No work
-Thursday - 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
-Friday - No work
-Monday, May 5 - 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.
-Tuesday, May 6 - 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.
-Wednesday, May 7 - 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
-Thursday, May 8 - 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
-Friday, May 9 - 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Liberty Tunnel will have a single-lane restriction outbound from 10 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday to allow for draining and flushing work. The tunnel will be closed inbound to traffic from 8 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday morning for a construction crew to move material for a $3.47-million roof replacement project. Traffic will be detoured, and work may continue Tuesday night.
The Highland Park Bridge will have single-lane restrictions in both directions, though not simultaneously, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday for inspection work.
I-376
-Overnight ramp closures on I-376 (Parkway West) through Rosslyn Farms, Collier and Robinson began Thursday for joint-sealing operations. Ramp closures westbound on I-376 to northbound on I-79 will take place on weeknights from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Thursday and Monday. Ramp closures eastbound on I-376 to northbound on I-79 will take place during the same hours on April 29-30.
-Single-lane restrictions on I-376 will take place in both directions between the Birmingham Bridge and Exit 79B (Churchill) beginning Monday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday for concrete and asphalt repairs, as well as other construction on the bridge. Work will continue through early July.
-A single-lane restriction will occur on I-376 westbound between the Smithfield Street Bridge overpass and the Fort Pitt Bridge from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday for survey work.
Allegheny County
-Single-lane restrictions southbound on I-79 will take place between exits 59 (Airport/Pittsburgh) and 60 (Moon Run/Crafton) for concrete patching from 9 a.m. on Fridays through 6 a.m. on Mondays every weekend except one until June 16. There will not be restrictions from May 23-26 due to Memorial Day.
-Single-lane restrictions in both directions on I-79 will take place between the Neville Island Bridge and Exit 64 (Route 51/Coraopolis/McKees Rocks) from 7 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday for concrete patching.
-Lane restrictions will take place northbound on McKnight Road between Ross Park Mall Drive and the Browns Lane/Johnanna Drive intersection. in Ross on Saturday from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. for waterline repair work.
-Single-lane restrictions on Route 50 (Washington Pike) in Collier will take place from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday for pavement widening.
-A long-term crossover on Lebanon Church Road in West Mifflin and Pleasant Hills will begin at 9 a.m. Monday. Westbound traffic will cross into the eastbound lane to allow for various construction projects through early August.
ADA-compliant curb ramp construction will begin April 28 and take place through early June from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays in the following locations:
-Route 121 (Cochran Road) between Arden Lane and Route 3052 (Greentree Road) in Mt. Lebanon.
-Route 3052 (Greentree Road) between Route 121 (Greentree Road) in Mt. Lebanon and the Virginia Mansions Condominium Driveway in Scott.
-Route 4049 (Nicholson Road) at the intersection with Route 910 (Wexford Bayne Road) in Franklin Park.
-Route 910 (Gibsonia Road) between Lakeside Drive and Ewalt Road in Richland.
Beaver Falls
Route 18 in Beaver Falls will be closed between 18th Street and 32nd Street from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays through mid-May for concrete core drilling operations.
Westmoreland County
Route 3043 (Plummer School Road), between Route 136 (Main Street) and Sportsman Road in South Huntingdon is closed due to a destroyed plastic cross pipe and damaged roadway from a brush fire. Repair work is anticipated through early November.
