For the holidays, the father-daughter duo behind Youngstown Pizza Reviews hosted a contest to see which pizza shop has the best taste in the Mahoning Valley.

For Youngstown reviewers Jeremy and Gracie Oklota, one slice of pizza came out on top: Sunrise Inn of Warren.

“I didn’t even know there was a contest going on, so I was surprised and grateful and very humbled,” said Kenny Haidaris, owner of Sunrise Inn.

Haidaris described it as an honor for the business that’s been in his family for 96 years to receive a rating of 8.6 out of ten by the Youngstown Pizza Reviews team, the highest rated slice of the year.

Sunrise Inn of Warren was the first pizza shop to open in the area in 1929, owned by Tom and Angelo Haidaris.

“The recipe is still the same as from 1940’s until now. There’s a lot of tradition there,” he said. “We use all the same ingredients, identically the same ingredients, and it’s just real. It’s a unique product. You either love it or you don’t, but in our area, the brier hill pizza, people seem to like.”

Sunrise Inn of Warren is located at 510 E. Market St. in downtown Warren and open from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. on Sunday and until 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
