A 15-year old juvenile has been arrested following a shooting at Sav-A-Lot in Youngstown, according to the Youngstown Police Department.

Reports state on Tuesday, the department responded to the parking lot of Sav-A-Lot at 2733 South Avenue in Youngstown regarding a shot juvenile male.

Officials said the Youngstown Police Department Detective Division, supported by Patrol and the NRU, immediately launched an investigation into the incident.

Detectives Michael Cox and Ronald Barber began canvassing neighborhoods and speaking with witnesses to the event, as well as maintaining a continual flow of dialogue with the YCSD, according to the department.

Reports state a suspect was developed and the Detective Bureau continued to work to analyze evidence while building a case.

Officials said shortly before noon on Thursday, YPD and the YCSD Police detained the suspect, a 15-year old male, and interviewed him about the shooting.

Based upon the evidence and after consultation with the Juvenile Division Prosecutor, the suspect was taken to JJC on a charge of attempted murder, according to officials.

The Youngstown Police Department emphasized that violence, especially when committed by juveniles, has no place in the community and will be aggressively investigated and prosecuted.

The department said the quick arrest was possible not only because of the work by law enforcement, but because of the cooperation by those in the community who also wish to see an end to this cycle of violence.
