Warren man who brutally assaulted infant, mother denied appeal in Trumbull County

A Warren man who was convicted in March 2024 of two counts felonious assault, two counts kidnapping and one count endangering children and later given a 26- to 31-year prison sentence for the offenses, lost his appeal in the 11th District Court of Appeals, according to a press release from the Trumbull County Prosecutor’s office.

On March 19, Tyrell Williams, 28, pleaded guilty to two counts felonious assault, two counts kidnapping and one count endangering children.

In April, Common Pleas Judge Ronald J. Rice ordered consecutive sentences for the repeat violent offender who, according to the judge, began his criminal career at age 12.

The case involved a brutal assault of an infant child and his mother at a southwest Warren home in July 2023 that was captured on video.

In his appeal, Williams raised a single assignment of error stating the trial court was wrong in imposing consecutive sentences. However, 11th District judges -- led by Judge Robert J. Patton and joined by Judges Matt Lynch and John J. Eklund -- disagreed. The decision was released on December 23.

Assistant Prosecutor Gabriel Wildman prosecuted the case in the trial court, while the appeal was handled by Assistant Prosecutor Ryan J. Sanders.

“The victims and residents of Trumbull County can now rest safely because Williams will be put away for a long time,” Wildman had said at the time of sentencing.

Williams is incarcerated at Warren (County) Correctional Institution.
