Youngstown man sentenced to more than 20 years for fatal shooting
A Youngstown man has been sentenced to more than 20 years in prison for a fatal shooting.
Kaylon Adams, 33, plead guilty to charges related to the fatal shooting of Christian Oliver, 31, and the injury of another woman.
Adams entered a guilty plea on Thursday to charges of Involuntary Manslaughter with an attached three-year firearm specification, Felonious Assault, Improper Discharge of a Firearm and Having Weapons Under Disability.
The plea agreement was reached after issues arose surrounding a key piece of DNA evidence against the defendant. The decision to make a plea offer was made after input and consent of the victims and their families.
Mahoning County Prosecutor Lynn Maro and Chief of Criminal John Juhasz successfully negotiated the plea to secure a conviction.
“We always prioritize the needs and concerns of the victims and their families in our prosecutorial decisions,” said Prosecutor Maro.
Adams’ was sentenced immediately to the agreed upon term of 23 to 28 ½ years.
