New research revealed Ohio as one of the top five best states to work for firefighters.

FireCashBuyers.com evaluated each U.S. state’s average hourly wages and employment rates provided by the Bureau of Labor Statistics to see which states are the best to work in for firefighters.

Massachusetts took first, followed by Hawaii, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Ohio. In Massachusetts, firefighters earn $32.04 an hour.

On the other hand, Pennsylvania placed eighth for one of the worst states to work as a firefighter.

According to the research, the lowest-scoring state is Vermont, followed by West Virginia and South Dakota.
