McDonald’s officials said a American flag was flown upside down Wednesday at its Austintown location, but said the error was made by a maintenance worker and not a political statement.

“This was an unintentional error when our flag was raised early yesterday morning,” local owner/operator Trey Locke said. “As soon as we were made aware of it, we rectified the situation. We are taking this opportunity to ensure our staff understand proper protocols.”

The American flag being flown upside down has been used in the past to signify a country in distress and some have flown flags upside down in protest of last week’s conviction in New York of former President Donald Trump, but McDonald’s officials the error had nothing to do with politics.
