A man, who was suspected to be drunk by police, drove into a stopped car, injuring a woman and two young children on Thursday.

The man was driving his red Chevrolet Camaro on Oakwood Avenue when he struck the other car, causing it to swerve off the road, according to a crash report from the Ohio Department of Public Safety.

The other car, a black Jeep Cherokee was stopped at a red light on the Oakwood Avenue and North Dunlap Avenue intersection. A 52-year-old woman was driving the Jeep and the crash report listed two juvenile passengers — a 6-year-old and a 13-year-old — who were also inside.

According to the report, the man was approaching from the west on Oakwood Avenue and hit the Jeep from behind. The driver of the Jeep was unharmed, but the two children sustained some injuries and were taken to Mercy Health — St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital by EMTs.

Officers at the scene suspected the man of being intoxicated at the time of driving and issued him a citation for the crash as well as an OMVI charge. The man told police that his brakes were not working when he attempted to stop at the red light.

Both cars were severely damaged in the crash. Treharn was observed to sustain small injuries and was taken to Mercy Health by paramedics.
