The victim told police that he had seen his assailant before in the area. He also reported that he believed this attack was due to an incident that occurred at the Coconut Grove bar. The victim stated that a woman was dancing near his groin area at the bar on Thursday and he had placed his hand on her buttocks, which upset the woman.

The victim recounted that his assailant seemed to be on the phone moments before he attacked him. The victim told police that he heard his assailant ask someone on the phone if “this was the guy” shortly before he pulled out the hammer.

The victim stated that he believes his attack is related to what happened at the club, according to the report. Police gave him a victim’s rights form and called an ambulance to transport the victim to Mercy Health — St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

Youngstown police are continuing to investigate the matter.
