The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Warren Post is investigating a traffic crash that resulted in one fatality of a juvenile over the weekend.

All four occupants of the vehicle were juveniles, the report stated. Three of the occupants were transported to University Hospital Geauga Medical Center. There, one of them passed away due to his injuries.

That teen was identified as Daniel Southall, 15, of West Farmington, according to the Geauga County Coroner’s Office.

The crash happened at around 3:06 a.m. on Sunday, July 7, 2024, on Ensign Road west of Girdle Road in Farmington Township.

The car, a black 2005 Honda Accord was traveling eastbound on Ensign Road when it failed to negotiate a curve to the right, ran off the left side of the road, struck a stump, struck a tree, and caught fire.

The driver was transported to the Trumbull Regional Medical Center and then to Akron Children’s Hospital in Akron for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

The other occupants were transferred to Metro Health in Cleveland for treatment of potentially life-threatening injuries.

The driver had been wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash, the patrol report stated. The other three occupants had not been wearing safety belts.

Speed and alcohol are believed to have been factors in the crash.

Bristol, Champion, Farmington, and Parkman fire and EMS personnel as well as the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
