Youngstown police are investigating an armed robbery at an Oak Street store that occurred around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The suspect allegedly came to the counter pointing a handgun at the attendant and other customers, according to witness reports. The bandit took cash totaling $161.25 out of the register. He then got on his bike riding east on Oak Street.

According to a report, dispatchers advised officers that the suspect was a black man wearing an orange sweatshirt and black jogging pants riding a bike heading toward McCartney Road.

A passerby later spotted the bicyclist riding north on Excelsior Avenue. Officers checked the area and three offices found a bicycle abandoned on Golden Bear Lane between Clay Street and East High Avenue.

Officers spoke to witnesses who said the bicyclist rode in from the northeast side, leaving the bike near an ice box and propane tank box. The suspect entered the store, walking around wearing a ski mask and sunglasses.

A witness told officer that the robber was cycling on Excelsior Street and then got into an older model black Ford F-150.

The witness told officers there were other men with ski masks and firearms inside the pickup truck, which headed east on Clay. The bike that was found on Golden Bear Lane was taken back to the station and logged in as evidence, the report stated.
