Republican Bernie Moreno is set to challenge incumbent Democrat Sherrod Brown to represent Ohio in the U.S. Senate.

Voters will decide between Moreno and Brown in November’s election, fewer than 100 days away.

How are the two candidates rallying supportive voters in the Mahoning Valley and surrounding areas of Ohio?

UAW Local 1112 President George Goranitis, BLET Vice Chairman of The Ohio State Legislative Board Sam Schatz, CWA Local 4320 member Renee Rouser, and Vice President of the Mahoning-Trumbull AFL-CIO Central Labor Council Jose Arroyo hosted a “Workers for Sherrod” statewide tour stop in Youngstown.

‘Workers for Sherrod’ stop in Youngstown

Last Thursday, the Mahoning-Trumbull AFL-CIO Central Labor Council hosted a “Workers for Sherrod” rally in Youngstown.

“Over the next 100 days, workers in Ohio will be doing everything we can to re-elect the most pro-worker Senator in the U.S. Senate. We never have to wonder about where Sherrod stands: he always stands with Ohio workers,” said vice president of the Mahoning-Trumbull AFL-CIO Central Labor Council Jose Arroyo.

The “Workers for Sherrod” campaign is touring throughout Ohio, meeting with voters like president George Goranitis, president of Mahoning Valley’s UAW Local 1112.

“No one has fought harder for Ohio auto workers than Sherrod Brown – he is making sure the next generation of American-made vehicles are built here in Ohio, by Ohio workers,” said UAW Local 1112 President George Goranitis. “When GM announced the closure of the Lordstown plant, Sherrod stood with the Mahoning Valley and did everything he could to protect good-paying jobs.”

The Ohio Federation of Teachers President Melissa Cropper also expressed support for Sen. Brown’s reelection.

“The future of our state comes down to the election on November 5, and we’re going to make sure the future of our students and educators is strong by reelecting Sherrod Brown,” said Cropper. “Whether it’s by quadrupling the tax deduction educators can take for out-of-pocket classroom expenses, fighting for the Social Security Fairness Act to ensure educators receive full social security benefits, or making housing more affordable for our members – Sherrod will always fight for us.”

Moreno visits Trumbull County Fair

Moreno, owner of a car dealership company, is the Donald Trump-endorsed Republican nominee for US Senate from Ohio.

“Sherrod Brown has been in public office for 18,104 days. In 100 days we will end his lifelong career as a politician,” wrote Moreno on Facebook.

Moreno’s shown support for Trump and his vice presidential pick, Ohio Senator J.D. Vance.

This month, Moreno stopped by the Trumbull County Fair to connect with local candidates like as well as Mahoning, Columbiana and Trumbull County voters.

“He gets it, just that simple. Bernie will represent the Mahoning Valley and Ohio so well in D.C.,” said Ohio State Rep. David Thomas.

In August, he’s participating in meet-and-greets with voters in Marietta, located on the southeastern side of Ohio, and the Union County Republican Party’s Summer Farm Fest in Marysville.

“Bernie is grateful to be supported by grassroots Republicans in all 88 counties across Ohio as well as national organizations that recognize the stakes in this race,” said Reagan McCarthy, communications director for Bernie Moreno for Senate. “Our campaign looks forward to reminding voters of Sherrod Brown’s long standing record of rubber-stamping the Biden-Harris administration’s agenda and voting with them nearly 100% of the time.”
