A 2023 fire closed the Ward-Beecher planetarium at Youngstown State University, but after extensive renovation, a grand reopening has been set for the weekend of Oct. 4-5.

The renovation included the construction and installation of a new copper roof, dome, carpeting, cove lights and many other improvements as a result of the fire, according to a posting on the YSU website.

The resumption of public shows will be set the entire opening weekend with the shows free and open.

Reservations will not be needed, but seating will be based on a first-come, first-served basis with doors opening 30 minutes prior to the start of the show.

Call 330-941-1370. At this time, school or group tours are not available.

The planetarium is located in the YSU Ward-Beecher Hall at 100 Lincoln Ave., Youngstown.
