The Judith Rae Solomon Gallery, located in YSU’s Bliss Hall, will welcome guest artist Katie Davis as she exhibits her work, titled “Domestic Instinct” in the gallery through September 20.

Davis’s exhibit explores the creative power that can be found in domestic spaces and the everyday materials of human lives. She is interested in the transformation of mundane materials into something new through the use of the visual language of painting and abstraction.

“These paintings push the boundaries of what a painting can be while infusing everyday objects with joy, playfulness, and all the messy, raw layers of domestic life,” Davis said.

Davis received her Master of Fine Arts in painting and drawing from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and her work has been included in numerous galleries and publications across the United States. She is a recipient of multiple Greater Columbus Arts Council Professional Artist Grants and was a featured artist in The Other Art Fair, Brooklyn, 2022 and Art Week Miami, 2022.

Davis is represented by the Sarah Gormley Gallery in Columbus. She currently works as an assistant professor at the Columbus College of Art & Design.

Entry to the exhibit is free and open to the public. The Judith Rae Solomon Gallery is open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
