In the Mahoning Valley, polls are open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. for the official Election Day across the country.

Early in-person voting in Ohio ended Nov. 3.

Stephanie Penrose, director of the Trumbull County Board of Elections, said voters turned out to cast their votes early and are continuing to show up on Election Day.

“We’re already at basically 30% turnout before we even got to the polls today,” Penrose said. “We set a record for Trumbull County with early voting. Over 23,000 people voted early in our office, and that doesn’t even include the people that voted by mail.

Penrose said around 19,000 Trumbull County voters requested ballots by mail, and over 17,400 people have returned their ballots.

“We always have some that don’t get returned,” she said. “If my predictions are right, about 45% of the registered voters will come out to the polls today. Hopefully it’s more; I like being wrong in these situations. Everything I’m hearing, the polls are very busy.”

Oct. 29 was the deadline to request an absentee ballot by mail, and ballots must be postmarked by Nov. 4 to be counted in the election.
