Here’s why Mercy Health encourages pre-travel checkups ahead of summer vacations
Taking a vacation soon? With summer travel in full swing, Mercy Health is reminding families to make a stop at their local primary care provider before hitting the road.
Dr. Stephen Predebon is a family medicine physician for Mercy Health’s Columbiana Primary Care.
“Summer travel should be fun and carefree, but health issues can disrupt even the best-laid plans,” Dr. Predebon said. “A simple check-up before your trip can give you peace of mind and keep your plans on track.”
Providers can offer advice tailored to different destinations, including travel vaccinations or medication adjustments for time zone changes, and managing chronic conditions like diabetes or asthma while you’re away.
“Whether you’re traveling across the state or around the globe, it’s important to know how to stay well while on the road,” Dr. Predebon said. “We can help you prepare for jet lag, manage your medications, and offer tips to keep your immune system strong during your trip.”
When traveling abroad, ask about region-specific vaccines or preventive measures to avoid health issues like foodborne illness or insect bites.
Mercy Health also recommends packing a small travel health kit that includes your medications, a list of allergies and any important medical information in case you need care while away from home.
