A paddleboard found washed up on the shore of an Arizona lake led to the discovery of a missing man’s body, sheriff’s deputies reported.
A camper at Ashurst Lake found the paddleboard and alerted the campground host at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Deputies found a vehicle set up to haul a paddleboard parked at the lake, deputies said.
As deputies went to check on the registered owner in Flagstaff, his wife called to report her husband overdue from a visit to the lake, officials said.
Searchers, a dog team and divers looked for the man Sunday and Monday. A remote-operated vehicle found his body underwater at 4:20 p.m. Monday, officials said.
Ashurst Lake is east of Sedona, about a 145-mile drive northeast from Phoenix.
