Former President Donald Trump is no longer making plans to return to Happy Valley just days before Election Day.
Although he attended a campaign rally this past Saturday at Penn State’s Bryce Jordan Center, he was also making plans to return for the Nov. 2 college football game between the No. 3 Nittany Lions and No. 4 Ohio State Buckeyes. However, that’s no longer the case.
“The University has been notified that former President Donald Trump will no longer be attending the Ohio State-Penn State football game,” spokesman Wyatt DuBois told the CDT in a Wednesday morning email.
Originally, last Thursday, Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger reported that Trump was “making plans” to attend the Big Ten clash with big playoff implications. And Penn State acknowledged then that University Police and Public Safety, along with other local law enforcement, were working with the U.S. Secret Service on security measures.
Trump had been invited by a private citizen as a guest in their Beaver Stadium suite, the university said at the time.
It was not immediately known what led to the change in plans.
The Big Ten matchup is set to kick off noon Nov. 2 (Fox) as one of the weekend’s most anticipated games. It is one of only two matchups where both teams are ranked; the other game is No. 18 Pitt vs. No. 20 SMU.
ESPN’s College GameDay and FOX Big Noon Kickoff will both air their pregame shows from Penn State’s campus, near the Bryce Jordan Center.
Trump appeared at the BJC this past Saturday, as thousands showed up to cheer on the presidential hopeful. His speech finished about a half-hour before the 7:30 p.m. kickoff between Penn State and Wisconsin, a game the Nittany Lions won 28-13.
Trump has previously attended two other football games this season. He showed up to the Sept. 28 game between Alabama and Georgia and the Oct. 20 NFL game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Jets.
