Historic log cabin in Ohio is headed to auction. Why is its location called ‘crazy?’

A historic home that’s headed to the auction block in Columbus, Ohio, is turning a lot of heads — thanks to its starting bid and its peculiar location.
The minimum bid is $100,000 for this log cabin…in the suburbs. Built in the 1920s, it’s clear the world managed to move on outside its rustic doors and what probably once was a wooded area but is now suburban Ohio.
“A historical gem with endless character,” the listing on Zillow says.
“Step into history with this one-of-a-kind log cabin located between Old Worthington & Clintonville. Nestled on a spacious lot, this charming cape-cod style retreat blends cozy, rustic appeal with the perks of city living. Inside you will find exposed log walls, warm wood tones and a welcoming atmosphere.”
It’s a two-story cabin with two bedrooms, one full bathroom and a little over 900 square feet.
“Outside the backyard provides plenty of room for gardening, or entertaining. A rare find & sought-after-location,” the listing continues.
The home caught the attention of Zillow Gone Wild, a Facebook page that highlights unique houses on the market all around the country. Some were perplexed by its location, while others were enchanted by the simplistic nature of a home from a time long gone.
“This is my favorite kind of log cabin. I hate those huge McMansion-style cabin monstrosities that people build now,” one person said.
“This is a cool home. It’s not cookie cutter like the awesome vinyl sided places of either side,” another noted.
“The only thing wrong with it is its location. A gorgeous place like that should be out in the woods somewhere,” another said.
“I’m low key loving this,” someone chimed in.
“It might be cool in the woods with better interior finishes but in the suburbs it’s just silly,” one person commented.
“Crazy it’s like in the middle of a neighborhood,” another said. “Thought it would in the woods.”
The auction is being held online and ends April 10.
