A sweet cat is in desperate need of a new home after unexpected circumstances forced her into a Philadelphia shelter.

Emma, a 4-year-old black and white cat with a darling, expressive face, isn’t used to shelter life. According to the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), the big-eyed feline had a family and a warm spot to sleep when her word was shattered.

“Our hearts are heavy for Emma,” the shelter said in a May 21 Facebook post.

“After her previous owner lost their housing, Emma found herself back at our shelter. Here, Emma hasn’t been the same. She barely lifts her head. Her eyes tell you everything - she is deeply, deeply sad.”

It’s made clear that Emma is a family cat, who attaches to her owner and loves those around her, including dogs.

“Before all this, Emma was described as a gentle soul. A calm, mellow cat who loved sleeping beside her person at night,” the shelter said. “She was wonderful with kids and got along well with her dog sibling. She had a home, a routine, and family - and now she has none of that.”

Not much information is given about Emma, just that she’s a domestic shorthair cat who has been spayed, according to her pet profile.

“We know Emma still has love to give, but she needs a quiet, caring home to bring her spark back. We want to see her thrive again, and we know she can,” the shelter said.
