Race in Section 1 boys soccer will be decided by season’s final game

With one game left on the Lancaster-Lebanon League boys soccer schedule, nothing has been resolved in Section One.

Warwick (7-2 L-L) is in first place. McCaskey (6-2-1) and Hempfield (6-2-1) are tied for second. Two of those teams will be in the league quarterfinals next week. Each could win the section, finish second or finish outside of the playoffs.

Warwick and McCaskey control their path. Both clinch with a victory. Warwick plays Cedar Crest at home Saturday. McCaskey is at Manheim Township Friday. Hempfield can qualify by winning at Penn Manor Friday and getting some help.

Wednesday night's results muddled the picture even more.

Hempfield defeated Warwick 3-0 at Landisville to prevent the Warriors from securing the section title. Goals came from T Maguire in the first half and Mac Szulborski and Nick Woodfill in the second.

McCaskey outlasted Penn Manor 4-3 in a shootout at Lancaster. Vincent Edmond scored the go-ahead goal in the 67th minute. Brandon Lopez, Kai Unwin-Wisnosky and Jergens Germain had the other goals for the Red Tornado.

The rest of the L-L playoff field is set.

Section 2

Cocalico (9-0) is the champion. The Eagles have won 12 games in a row.

Conestoga Valley (7-2) will finish second. The Buckskins' only league losses are to Cocalico.

Section 3

Lampeter-Strasburg (8-0-2) has completed its run to the section title. The Pioneers haven't lost since Aug. 30.

Lancaster Catholic (6-2-1) has locked down second place.

Section 4

Lancaster Mennonite (7-0-2) and Lancaster Country Day (7-1-1) have qualified. They play at Mennonite Thursday to determine who will be the champion and who will be the runner-up.
