As area teams begin the 2025 portion of their schedules, Canfield remains the best of the best in this week’s mahoningmatters.com Super 7 boys basketball poll. Here’s a look at this week’s rankings:

Canfield

Canfield just keeps recording impressive wins and remains No. 1 in the poll.

The Division IV Cardinals are 10-1 on the season and have won four games in a row with triumphs over East Liverpool (83-79), Cardinal Mooney (45-39), Boardman (55-49) and West Branch (50-41) during their latest winning streak.

The Cardinals possess all the qualities you see in a team that could make a long tournament run in February and March. The Cardinals play outstanding defense, have several outstanding scorers, both in the paint and from long-range, and they don’t beat themselves with mistakes.

East Liverpool

East Liverpool remains the No. 2-ranked team in the poll.

The high-scoring Potters, who are one of the top three-point shooting teams in the area, are 9-2 on the season and one of their two losses came in a close 83-79 setback to No. 1-ranked Canfield on the Cardinals’ home court.

The Potters, who are coming off a 73-46 win over Ohio River rival Oak Glen (Wva.), are one of the Division IV powers in the Eastern District.

Youngstown Ursuline

Youngstown Ursuline, which plays an outstanding schedule, remains the No. 3-ranked team in the poll.

The Irish (7-3), who reached the state semifinals last season, are coming off a 101-84 triumph over the Massillon Tigers.

Ursuline is on a two-game winning streak, also defeating Hilliard Bradley (64-56) during its recent winning streak.

Warren Harding

Warren Harding remains as the No. 4-ranked team in the ratings.

The Raiders have compiled a 7-2 record and are on a two-game winning streak with wins over Austintown Fitch (67-39) and Garfield Heights Trinity (64-52).

Warren JFK

Warren JFK has moved up from No. 7 to No. 5 in this week’s poll.

The Eagles defeated Lake Center Christian (42-38) in their most recent contest.

The Eagles’ two losses this season came to a pair of teams in Berlin Hiland and New Castle (Pa.) that sport a combined record of 16-1.

Columbiana

Columbiana moves up from No. 7 to No. 6 in the ratings.

The Clippers are a perfect 9-0 on the campaign and lead the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference standings with a 4-0 record.

They are averaging 59.4 points-per-game and their defense is surrendering just 43.7 ppg.

The Clippers recorded a 57-43 road win over the Lisbon Blue Devils in their most recent game.

Campbell Memorial

The Campbell Memorial Red Devils jump into the poll and round out this week’s ratings as the No. 7-ranked team.

The Red Devils are 8-2 and rolled past Struthers 83-50 in their most recent outing.
