The two-time defending Division I state champion Austintown Fitch Falcons are the No. 1 team in the mahoningmatters.com Super 7 poll. Here’s a look at this week’s rankings.

Austintown Fitch

Austintown Fitch remained perfect on the season and is ranked No. 1 in the ratings.

The Falcons exploded for 17 hits in a 17-4 rout of Federal League member Lake last Saturday.

Fitch is a perfect 3-0 on the season and has thoroughly dominated its first three opponents this spring.

The Falcons are once again one of the top Division I contenders in Ohio.

Canfield

Canfield is No. 2 in this week’s poll.

The defending D2 state champion Cardinals remained unbeaten after posting a pair of wins last week, including a 9-6 triumph over fellow softball power Field and a 9-3 road triumph over the West Branch Warriors.

The Cardinals are 3-0 on the season and have scored 22 runs in their first three contests.

Canfield is now Division IV in the OHSAA’s new seven division format.

Warren Champion

Warren Champion holds down the No. 3 spot in the rankings for the third consecutive week.

The Golden Flashes, led by their outstanding senior pitcher Gabby Gradishar, who is a Penn State commit, posted a 10-0 shutout of the Federal League’s Perry Panthers last week.

The Golden Flashes are 2-0 on the campaign.

Hubbard

The Hubbard Eagles, who have gotten off to a great start, jump into the poll at No. 4 this week.

Among the Eagles’ early-season wins is a 6-1 triumph over returning D4 state qualifier Mathews.

The Eagles are 4-1 on the season.

Boardman

Boardman jumps up from No. 7 to No. 5 in this week’s rankings.

The Spartans are 3-1 on the season with wins over Lakevew, Louisville and Poland.

The Spartans’ lone loss came against perennial softball power North Canton Hoover.

South Range

Division V South Range, which plays an outstanding independent schedule against larger D1 and D2 schools that prepares the Raiders for the postseason, is No. 6 in this week’s rankings.

The Raiders, who are the defending D3 state runner-up, are coming off a 9-5 setback to the Division I Mentor Cardinals.

Mathews

Mathews drops to No. 7 in the rankings following its loss to Hubbard.

The Mustangs qualified for state in Division IV last year and are expected to be a force in their new Division VII classification this spring.
