The Youngstown State track and field team had three athletes named Under Armour #HLTF Outdoor Athletes of the Week following strong performances at the Raleigh Relays last week.

The women swept the honors as McKinley Fielding was named the top runner and Esther Solarin was named the top field athlete. For the men, Hunter Christopher was named the league’s top running performer. Christopher and Fielding set school records in distance events at the meet hosted by NC State.

Christopher lowered his school record in the 5,000m run at the Raleigh Relays on Thursday evening. He ran a time of 13:47.10 in the event to better his previous career best of 13:50.89 which he ran last May in California. In a monster field of 213 athletes, he placed 29th overall.

Fielding had an impressive outdoor debut, crushing the school record in the 10,000m on Friday night at the Raleigh Relays. In winning the first section of the race, she had a time of 34:33.09. That time crushed the previous school mark of 34:51.17 set by Samantha Hamilton in May 2014.

Solarin finished second in the triple jump at the Raleigh Relays with a leap of 12.70m. In the long jump, she had a best mark of 5.50m.

The Penguins will have athletes at the Tennessee Invitational and the SRU Dave Labor Invitational beginning on Friday.
