There’s a new No. 1 in this week’s mahoningmatters.com Super 7 high school baseball poll, as the Boardman Spartans have risen to the top spot in the rankings. Here’s a look at this week’s poll.
Boardman
Boardman, which has won seven games in a row, is the new No. 1 in the poll.
The Spartans, who are 7-1 on the season, posted triumphs over Howland twice by scores of 5-2 and 4-2, Toronto 5-3 and the Federal League’s Perry Panthers by a 13-2 final, last week.
Boardman has outscored its opponents 46-22 this season.
Poland
Poland, which is 6-1, has risen to No. 2 in this week’s rankings.
The Bulldogs split with Lakeview winning 3-0 and losing 5-3 last week.
Poland, which features great pitching, has outscored its opponents, 61-9 this spring while its mound staff has tossed four shutouts.
Canfield
Canfield fell from No. 1 to No. 3 in this week’s rankings.
The Cardinals, who play a strong schedule against several out-of-state opponents, are 8-4 on the season.
The Cardinals defeated Greeneville, Tennessee 12-2 last week.
Girard
The Girard Indians jumped into the poll at No. 4.
The Indians are 9-3 on the season and have won five straight contests.
The Indians defeated Salem, Warren Harding, Springfield Local and Youngstown Chaney last week while outscoring those four opponents, 38-13.
South Range
South Range remains No. 5 in the ratings.
The Raiders own a 4-2 record and are coming off a 7-6 win over Youngstown Ursuline.
The Raiders have outscored their opponents, 55-19 and its pitching staff has posted two shutout wins.
Cardinal Mooney
Youngstown Cardinal Mooney jumps up from No. 7 to No. 6 in the poll.
The Cardinals, who are 7-4 against a strong schedule, recorded wins over Akron Hoban by a 9-4 final and Columbiana 11-1 last week.
United
United rounds out this week’s poll at No. 7.
The Golden Eagles have won five games in a row, including three last week. They defeated Lisbon twice by scores of 5-2 and 3-1 and the Tuslaw Mustangs by a 3-2 final.
The Golden Eagles are 10-4 this spring.
